EuroCC@Greece announced the 7th Course of HPC Training Series with the subject “AI for Life Sciences, vol. 1: Deep Learning for Health and Life Sciences”, which successfully took place online on November 1st, 2024, attracting more than 100 registered participants.

Presentation language: Greek

Audience: Suitable for students, researchers and engineers interested in understanding Machine Learning (ML) and in using ML-based classifiers in an AI pipeline that analyses medical images.

This course provided an introduction to AI techniques based on Machine Learning, with application to life sciences. An overview of AI applications in the life sciences was followed by hands-on training in PyTorch. Participants then explored real-world applications of AI and deep learning in healthcare imaging, particularly breast cancer classification from MRI images. This was done via a tutorial provided by BIOEMTECH, who shared their experience with using MONAI and PyRadiomics, two popular, widely-used open source tools specialised in medical imaging. Through practical demonstrations, participants learned how to prepare, process, and analyse imaging data, with an opportunity for hands-on engagement using a sample dataset.

A prior knowledge of the basics of the Python language was beneficial for some parts of the course.
